Sir, The News of a plane carrying 303 Indian passengers being grounded at an airport in north-eastern France on suspicion of human trafficking, which was flying from the United Arab Emirates to the Nicaraguan capital, Managua, this group consisted of 303 people including some minors, these Indian passenger might have planned to travel to central African country Nicaaguan in order to attempt illegal entry into the United States or Canada, but crossing these borders are full of risk ,earlier also some Indians had lost their lives at these US/Canada borders.

Earlier Millions of Syrian refugees who risked their lives in the hope of a better life in Europe died while crossing the Mediterranean sea,More than 700 such asylum seekers perished recently in three separate incidents.

The best efforts to end the human trafficking should start from the migrants’ home countries by educating people of risk of illegal migration, also urgent Measures should should be taken to improve the economic situation in these countries

The fate of migrants is often marred by such tragedies by the illegal agents who exploit unsuspecting people, A SIT may be formed by the union government for the -depth investigation to break the nexus by apprehending of the agents based in India and their handlers abroad and stern action must be taken against the traffickers who exploit people desperate to find a better life.

Human trafficking in the Mediterranean must be stopped-Saudi gazette
2nd May 2015-LE.

The pilgrimage to a better life met a horrifying end when a fishing boat which was packed with migrants recently capsized in Libyan waters in the Mediterranean near Italy. It is thought that as many as 900 asylum seekers lost their lives in one of the worst migrant or refugee disasters in the Mediterranean or indeed in the world. This horrendous tragedy on seas between Malta and Italy is a grim reminder of the plight of refugees who risk their lives in the hope of finding greener pastures for themselves and their families.

While it is tragic that so many people have lost their lives trying to reach the shores of Italy, this disaster also underscores how Libya, reeling under the influence of violence and political turmoil, has become a haven and focal point for human smuggling along the African coastline.

To date, the death toll in the Mediterranean is thought to have already passed 1,500 victims — a dramatic increase from the same period last year. Migrants are often sent out to sea in overcrowded and unseaworthy boats with insufficient engine power and without enough fuel for the dangerous journey. These poor migrants left their homes due to a lack of opportunity for growth and development in their countries only to end their lives in a watery grave. The world at large and especially the United Nations and the European Union must take action to end this human trafficking. The countries of the Middle East also have a prominent role to play in putting a stop to this human tragedy and in providing relief to people in distress. Stern action must be taken against the traffickers who exploit people desperate to find a better life.

Desperate migrants
Gulf Times-April 28, 2015--LE-Dear Sir

Migrants from Africa and the Middle East are braving mounting perils in their quest for a better life as many countries in the two regions are roiled by political strife and civil war. Most of the 850 people who have drowned off the coast of Libya last week were fl eeing Somalia and Libya. This year so far the number of refugees who had lost their lives while trying to cross the Mediterranean Sea in rickety vessels had surpassed 1,500, a drastic spike from the same period last year. While many leaders are calling the situation a humanitarian crisis, there’s a deep xenophobic undercurrent clouding the debate over how Europe should respond. One conservative UK columnist responded to last week’s shipwreck by suggesting that Europe should patrol the Mediterranean with gunships instead of trying to rescue migrant ships. People leave their homes because no opportunities of growth and development exist for them there. Poverty is driving them to try their luck somewhere else.

The best efforts to end the crisis should start from the migrants’ home countries then. Measures should urgently be taken to improve the economic situation in these countries.

The European Union and the United Nations should work together to tackle the challenge. No country can make it a fortress, shutting out foreigners, in our world now. Desperation will lead people to take extreme steps. Often they prefer death to living as the situation around them is so hopeless. At the same time, stern action must be taken against gangs involved in human trafficking. They are exploiting the humanitarian plight to enrich themselves.

Dear Sir,
The images of heavily-overloaded boats with migrants capsizing in the Mediterranean off Libya are shocking. The drowning of so many people, in a way, depicts the death of our morality and consciousness.

Also, it brings into sharp focus the urgent need to end the Syrian strife which has resulted in millions seeking refuge in neighbouring countries and in Europe. The journey to a better life, for many, meets a horrifying end, though.

The treacherous Mediterranean Sea crossing from Libya to Italy has claimed the lives of thousands of migrants. The tally cannot be known for sure as authorities acknowledge they don’t have precise information about how many people are being jammed into unsuitable vessels and swallowed up by the vast waters of the southern Mediterranean.

These poor migrants leave their homes because of a lack of opportunity for growth and development in their countries but end their lives in a watery grave.

It is time the United Nations, major power powers like the US and Russia and leading Middle Eastern countries leave behind any differences among them and find a viable solution to the Syrian crisis.

At the same time, stern action must be taken against human traffickers who exploit those desperate to find a better life in a new country.

Sea Challenge of piracy
Arab News--LE--14 Oct 2010-L.E

The recent spate of hijacking of ships in the high seas off the coast of Somalia is shaping up as a serious threat to maritime security and international commerce. The crime, taking place in faraway lands from an Indian perspective , affected us directly when an Indian ship also became a victim. The perpetrators of these crimes are well-organized transnational crime syndicates taking advantage of the openness and vastness of the seas. These pirates cannot be independent entrepreneurs.

They are soldiers of fortune employed as fronts for well-organized mafia outfits involved in terrorism, narcotics, arms trafficking and other big-time crimes.

One or two ships — even if they are American and Russian naval vessels — moving in the direction of the scene of the crime will not serve any purpose. The only effective action is for the regional and international navies patrolling the region to form an alliance to guard the sea lanes to stop these crimes. Unlike in the past, in this high-tech world of surveillance cameras and other tracking technologies, satellite cameras can cover every inch of the seas.

India, as a victim, should take the initiative to get the ball rolling. All navies have a presence in the Indian Ocean. All that is needed is government-government cooperation.

Despite the presence of major international naval forces on this route, Government to Government cooperation is required to nab these pirates and end this menace once and for all.

Sir, Spate of Hijacking of Ships has become rampant off Somalia Coast and has become a serious threat to martime security and trade, 1990 Civil war gave birth to these War Lords and Sea Piracy .As this shipping route being one of the world's most busiest shipping Lanes hence these Pirates take advantage of openness and vastness of Seas. this Hijacking of Eight Indian Dhows carrying 120 sailors off Kismayo Coast is indeed a very tragic event causing agony not only to sailors"s families but to shipping companies.

The Perpetrators of these inhuman crimes are well organized transnational gangs which are front for well funded international crime syndicate of terrorist's organizations, Narcotics mafia, Arms Merchant and Sea robbers who know where to take ransom money and Invest them.

These Sea Piracies should not be taken lightly otherwise it could escalate and spread to other Seas as well like Red Sea, Today all Major International Navies have presence there what is needed is government to Government cooperation to end this menace as these Pirates are not in large numbers ,Unlike olden days we have High Tech satellite based surveillance Tracking system which can track every inch of Seas on 24x7 Basis.
