Early Life of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru.
Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru was born in year 1889 in
Allahabad, during the period of British India, to a prominent Kashmiri Brahmin
family settled in Allahabad in UP, his parents Shri Motilal Nehru and Smt
Swaruprani belonged to a prominent Kashmiri Pandit family, His father, Pandit
Motilal Nehru (1861-1931), was a highly respected and a wealthy barrister who had
served twice as President of the Indian National Congress, in 1919 and 1928.
Nehru received his elementary education at home from a English
governess and a private tutors, In year 1905, when he was only sixteen years
old, he went to England for studies, to join a prominent boarding British school
for boys, Harrow School, in 1907, from there, he went to Trinity College,
Cambridge, where he spent three years and graduated with honours degree in
natural science in 1910, after Cambridge, he further studied law and qualified as
Barrister at the Inner temple London.
After completing his law degree in England, he returned to
India in August 1912, Nehru enrolled himself as an advocate of the Allahabad High
Court and tried to settle down as a barrister but like his father Motilal
Nehru, as a lawyer, he had desultory interest in his legal profession, slowly, his
involvement in nationalist politics replaced his legal practice, Jawahar Lal
Nehru, from his student days, wanted freedom for India from British.
In March 1916, Jawahar Lal Nehru, four years after, he returned
from England, he married Kamala Kaul, who also was from a prominent Kashmiri
Brahmin family, who had settled in old Delhi. Kamala Nehru gave birth to a
daughter in November, 1917, Indira Pryadarshini, who was the 3rd prime Minister of
India, Smt Kamala Nehru gave birth to a boy, in Nov, 1924, but he passed away
after a week.

Nehru was an icon for Indian youth,every year in the country, 14th
November, the birthday of Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru is celebrated as
Children's Day(Bal divas) in recognition of his passion and work for the welfare

attempts to convence the British against the dividing the country in two
parts on religious grounds, but the partition was still done due to
the rigid stand taken by then Mohmmed Ali Jinha and finally United India was
divided along the religious lines, which led to the formation of India and
Pakistan, Nehru had to reluctantly accept the partition,

after the partition,

independent nations, India and Pakistan, there was also a
considerable turmoil due the partition, the mass displacement of people from both
the sides, which resulted in the massive loss of property and lives of
several, hundred thousand of people from both the sides,
The partition displaced about 14 millions people along religion
lines, which created an overwhelming refugees crisis for both the
newly constituted dominions, to him goes the credit of rehabilitating millions of
these refugees who crossed over to India after partition, this partition was one
of the greatest migration in human history, sadly among those, who crossed from
both the sides, many never made it to other side.
Thus there was a big challenge before the new government, to settle
these people in different parts of India, as massive population
exchanges had occurred between the two newly formed nations in the months
immediately following Partition, It was really a Hercules task, before the Nehru

India also for them Adipur in Kutch was a created a new city.
During that period very few people had understood the gravity of the
partition, that it will bring one of largest human displacement of people on
the enormous scale from both the sides, But government led by

When India got independence in 1947, and Nehru took over as prime Minister, he
was of the opinion, that India could not permanently eliminate poverty, just by
agriculture led growth, or by rural industries, he wanted large scale
industrialization for India to meet the aspiration of the young people, he was of
the view that Industry led growth will transfer Indian economy quickly and
effectively, also large number of engineers and Engineering management
Graduates, passing out from these newly set up institutions of higher learning
IIT's, NIT's, IIM's will get jobs in India, they don't have to go to west looking
for a job.

When Jawahar Lal Nehru started giving importance to public
sector, at the cost of the private sector, for this he was often

Also During his period, also National Defense Academy of
India (NDA) and the Atomic Energy Commission of India (AEC) were established, Even
foundation for Indian space programme was made during his era.

In 1962, Then Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru, had set up Indian National
Committee for Space Research
(INCOSPAR), under his close aide and scientist Vikram Sarabhai, in 1969,
Indian National Committee for Space, which was superseded in 1969
as Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO).

English and wrote a number of books, such as The Discovery of India, Glimpses of
World History, and his autobiography, Toward Freedom.
(a) The Discovery of India (1942-1946),
It was one of the great book written by Pandit Nehru, while he was in
prison (1942–46), in the solidarity
confinement in the Ahmednagar fort prison for participating in the Quit India
Movement, The book is widely considered as one of the finest modern works on
Indian history, it is also considered by historian, his way of paying an homage to
his beloved country and its rich culture.
(b) Glimpses of World History (1942).
"Glimpses of World History" is a book which was published by Jawaharlal
Nehru in the year 1942, This book is a collection of letters, he
wrote to his daughter Indira, when he was in various prisons in British India, It
is a collection of 196 letters written on world history, these letters were meant
to introduce her towards world history, and it is also the account of the
progress of the world through centuries and ages.
In his first few letters, he as a father, expresses his anguish for not
being around with his daughter and give her personally moral support and
materialistic gifts, as other fathers gives to their children, but he promises
to give her daughter, what he can afford in the form of knowledge
and wisdom, through the words that that come from core of his heart from the four
walls of prison, he wrote 196, letters in which he covered
history of mankind from 6000 BC to the time he wrote these letters to his
daughter Indira.
(c) Toward Freedom (1936)
"Towards The Freedom", (1936) is an autobiographical book written by
Jawahar Lal Nehru, he wrote almost entirely this book, while he was
in prison, (1934-1935) except post script minor changes. In this book, he
starts his life history, and describes everything in details, like how his
ancestors had to flee Kashmir, and tells about his own life, with a particular
emphasis on the parts of his life that had brought him to this point in time,
During his term as prime Minister, National Book trust (NBT) was
established in 1957.
The Nehru's Set backs, Chinese invasion,
The greatest blunder of the Nehru was, to underestimate the danger from
communist China, result was after Chinese attack on India in
1962, and subsequent humiliating defeat, his health started deteriorating
steadily,
and after this 1962 debacle, he was not as active and charismatic as before, and
finally he died in 1964.
India's debacle against China in 1962 war was a major setback to Jawhar
lal Nehru's foreign policy and country's defense preparedness was
found wanting, it was also a big blow to India's international stature, Nehru
after Chinese war was not the same,his health started deteriorating, as he was
greatly anguished, due to the Chinese invasion of India in 1962, he told
countrymen that we were out of reality and India misjudged the badly
Chinese intentions
Kashmir issue,
Also there was Kashmir war (1947-48) between India and Pakistan during initial
period of Nehru governmnet, in which Pakistanis entered the Kashmir in the guise
of Muslim tribesmen, in fact Pakistan made a an attempt to seize Kashmir by
force(1948), but Pakistan failed and there was cease fire, hence Inclusive
results of this war still reflects the geo-political situation of both the
countries.
Had Sardar Vallabh Bai Patel, then Home minster of India was allowed to
handle the Kashmir issue like he handled of the 526 Princely states
which merged with India in 1947, probably Kashmir situation would have been
different, and this problem would have been settled once for all all at that
time.

greatest statesman of the century said, he worked all his life for
the peaceful existence of the world, though he has left us, world will be much
poorer without Nehu, Atal Bihari Vajpayee then a young Member of
Parliament (MP), was gracious enough in his praise who likened Nehru to Rama, whose
spirit will continue to guide us as we build new India of his dreams, he also
called him Mother India's favourite Prince, Bharat Mata is grief stricken
today, Nehru's death is loss to humanity, and with his death t he loss to
Parliamentary democracy is irreparable.
Tough Nehru and Vajpayee belonged to complete different ideologies, during that
period, Vajpayee was a young leader of the Bhartiaya jan Sangh and member of Lok
Sabha, once Nehru had described Vajpayee as the future prime Minister of India.
Bharat Ratana for Nehru,
On july, 15, 1955, Jawahar Lal Nehru was awarded the country's highest
civilian honour Bharat Ratna by then president Rajendra Prasad for
his outstanding contribution during the freedom struggle and as the first prime
minister of the independent India, Then President Rajendra Prasad awarded him
the honour without taking advice from the Prime Minister as would be the normal
constitutional procedure.

founding fathers of our nation, so that future generations remain aware of their

Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru, 1st prime Minister of India, and the greatest

Many historians have attributed the Nehru's decline in health over the
defeat in Sino-India war, it was
definitely a big personel blow to Nehru's personel international stature, he

that till 1962 war, he did't have any known health problem, but he died due to
the shock he suffered after the Chinese attack on India, after this he Nehru
spent long time in recuperating in Kashmir, Nehru Definitely misjudged Chinese
