Coronavirus: Recognising the unsung heroes
Gulf News, April 09, 2020

Doctors, healthcare staff and police officers are our real frontline heroes of this coronavirus pandemic. They are leading this war against the virus and when the rest of the world is at home, protecting themselves form this pandemic, they are outside, working under adverse conditions. They are at a risk of getting infected too.

These unsung heroes work a 24-hour shift, seven days a week in hospitals and around cities trying to save the patients, who are infected with coronavirus.

Even our police force is undoubtedly paying an important role in helping keep the city safe amid the pandemic. These unsung heroes are putting up a relentless fight against this deadly disease, which has spread its wings far and wide. This virus has affected more than 180 countries. The US is currently the most adversely affected of them all. No one knows exactly when this pandemic will end. A cure or vaccine has not been created yet. The disease has affected millions of people all around the world.

These doctors, paramedics, police officers in the UAE and around the world are selflessly devoting their service for the sake of the survival of mankind. Hence, they are the real heroes during this crisis.

Sir — The efforts by the Air force, Navy, Army and the National Disaster Response Force to rescue 1,050 passengers stuck aboard the Mumbai-Kolhapur Mahalaxmi Express deserve to be applauded. The train was stranded near Badlapur in Thane owing to the flooding of tracks following heavy rains. There were sick, elderly and pregnant passengers as well as infants on-board.

It was a timely and difficult operation carried out by multiple agencies working together on a tough and undulating terrain. The train was fully surrounded by water from the Ulhas river. These rescue efforts proved that a lot of good can be done if people work together.

Distinguished Journalist Jobs well done
The Pioneer-19 Jan 2012-LE

Sir-I congratulate The Pioneer’s special correspondent J Gopikrishnan for bagging the Ramnath Goenka Journalist of the Year Award for his articles that exposed the huge 2G Spectrum scam. Last year he had won the CNN-IBN special achievement award for his articles on the subject. But he would not have been perhaps this successful without the support of his editor Chandan Mitra. Theaward will encourage journalists who believe in the values of truth and ethics to also perform well, without regard for the pulls and pressures that such journalists are often subjected to from vested interests.

Congratulations to Subhash Chandra, the founder of Zee Group, for being conferred with the prestigious 2011 International Emmy Directorate award. He is a Pure visionary and the guiding spirit of IV median India. It was his Herculean efforts that Promoted TV revolution in India. In early 90s, he was the one who Kok a risk and started the country's first private owned TV channels: Zee TV and Zee News.

Many of today's established news anchors, such as Nidhi Kulpati and Anubha Bhonsle, had started their career with Zee News. Chandra's music programme Sa Re Ga Ma is still one of the most popular programmes in its category and has given platform to many a talented singer.

It is a great honor that an Indian personality has been given such a prestigious award. It is not just Chandra but the Indian TV media, too, which has been honored.

Kudos to Women pilot.
Khaleej times,12 June,2012,L.E.

Congratulations to woman Captain Urmila Yadav and her co-pilot Yashu for superb airmanship and piloting (Alert pilots save 48 passengers as Air India plane loses a wheel, KT, June 11). This also reminds us that women in any profession are no less than men. When Air India’s aircraft with 48 passengers took off from Silchar for Guwahati, the air traffic control noticed an object falling to the ground. The ground staff found it to be a nose wheel and an alarm was raised at both the airports at Silchar and Guwahati. The pilot was informed and advised to land as late as she could as this is a standard safety protocol/procedure done under extreme emergency circumstances to avoid disasters/catastrophic situations.

The pilots and crew of the flight should be hailed as real-life heroes because they very efficiently and calmly took over the situation, overseeing the miraculous escape and subsequent successful evacuation of all the passengers. Their timely action helped avert a major air disaster.

However, it reminds us that airlines should have constant maintenance of aircrafts.

Congratulations to Air India captain Urmila Yadav and co-pilot Yashu for showing true grit under a trying situation. Their presence of mind in landing the A- I plane after the nose wheel came off shows that women are no less than men in any profession.

Their bravery saved 47 lives and deserves applause. But the incident is a reminder to authorities that they should turn their focus on maintenance of aircraft.

Congratulations to the Captain of the Air India flight, Urmila Yadav, and tier copilot Yashu for their superb airmanship and piloting. Their act, Which saved several precious lives, also reminds us that women in any professional are no less than men. Though; the heroic act of the pilots saved all the lives and averted a major air disaster, but the airlines should take the incident seriously.

This should remind the airlines about conducting regular safety drills and maintenance safety drills and maintenance checks of the air crafts.

The unprecedented floods in many parts of India, from east to south in Karnataka and Kerala, and in some parts of the north of the country have caused immense human misery to people, animals and property (“Dubai resident on holiday dies while rescuing kids in Kerala floods”, Gulf News, August 14).

The monsoons take place every year and cause misery, yet timely relief is not given to those suffering. But this time, the difficult yet timely continuous operation, carried out in tough and undulating terrain involving infants, pregnant women, the sick and elderly, by teams from the police and defence forces speaks volumes about dedication of our agencies, which deserve to be applauded.

Television visuals speak about their heroic efforts. Chief Minister B. Siddalingappa Yediyurappa and his team should also be wholeheartedly commended for their effort in providing relief for people. These remarkable and difficult rescue operations displayed the triumph of the human will of our people. The collective effort proves that a lot can be achieved if there is timely coordination efforts.

Congratulations to those people on their exemplary efforts.

COMMENDABLE FEAT (RESCUE OPERATION IN THAILAND)
The Pioneer, 12 July 2018 |L.E.

Sir---The Thailand Government as well as the members involved in the rescue operation of 12 young boys and their coach who were rescued from a flooded Thai cave after spending 18 harrowing days deserve all compliments. It is unlikely that a rescue operation of this magnitude has been attempted before. The success of this endeavor is all the more significant because survival rate in such incidents is very abysmal.

This remarkable operation displayed the triumph of human will, and proved that a lot can be achieved if technology is used to its advantage.
