Despite increased safety and vigilance at airports and installations of hi tech safety gadgets, an unclaimed package was found at cargo area , This is shocking and alarming ( security needed at cargo complex March 22)

This incidence is a major security lapse and raises question on overall safety at all airports.

Beef Up Security
The Pioneer,11th March,2019,L.E.

Sir — The terror attack on security forces in Pulwama has highlighted the need to revamp the security network at defense installations like the Information Technology parks. Given the mounting tensions between India and Pakistan, acts of terrorism are unlikely to end anytime soon. It is, therefore, imperative for India as well as the Government to put in place appropriate security measures at vital and sensitive places.

Bengaluru is regarded as India’s Silicon Valley. Exports from the city have been estimated at billions of dollars. Besides, it also generates employment for a large number of IT professionals. Hence, it is essential that to effectively meet the terror threats, physical safety audit of all important economic and defense installations — notably the mega Information Technology parks, shopping malls, railways stations and airports — must be carried out and corrective measures be taken. The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) with its vast experience has an important role to play.

The IT parks can turn out to be soft targets. The system of entry to these areas must be tightened with better coordination among the security agencies. This can ensure an effective and swift response if disaster strikes. India should be prepared to tackle any warfare.

Sir - The terrorist attack inside Istanbul's main airport is a grim reminder of the pathetic state of security in most international airports. In March, there had been a similar attack in Brussels airport.

Indian airports are particularly vulnerable to terror attacks. At present, one can enter an Indian airport simply by showing the ticket and the identity proof. A passenger is not physically frisked at the entry point and the hand baggage is checked after the passenger has already entered the airport. If someone wants to conduct a terrorist strike, he or she can well carry explosive materials, hide them somewhere in the airport lounge and disappear into the crowd.

The government should immediately carry out safety audits in all the international airports in India and tighten the existing security measures in order to prevent the occurrence of a Brussels- or an Istanbul-type attack.

Security audit of Defence Installation urgently needed

Sir, Terror attack in country”s important air Force station Pathankot brings to fore the need for enhanced security at these vital installations and better coordination among security agencies for more effective response,to meet terror attacks, there is no doubt that terror attack in Pathankot airbases was meant to inflict maximum collateral damage at here, which had in place Mig-fighters,Helicopters and advanced missile system,

These terror attacks are not going to end in immediate future ,Hence India has to take some concrete measures in securing these installations,

It is time state should demonstrate to citizens by some concrete actions that it will its assess weaknesses in the system and will take corrective action as for as possible,of course having full proof security is not easy in big country like India with large land borders and sea coast, with large defence installations,

Hence Country to meet the effectively terror threats, it should carry out physical safety audit of its defence installations and in particular to state of preparedness to meet the challenges of terror response , Also it should put in place a system of well cordinate response among securityagencies. in case of any such eventuality of terror attacks.
