On the occasion of Mother’s Day(12th may,2024), I would like to pay my humble tribute to all mothers.

Mothers are God’s best gift to mankind, without them a huge vacuum is created in a person’s life, Mothers are children’s first school where they learn morals and manners, Mothers are a symbol of love and forgiveness, they are selfless and full of generosity, from the time her child is born, a mother nurtures him/her until her last breath, in our life mothers play a very significant role in upbringing children which can’t be compensated by any means.

Some learned person rightly described mother as epitome of selfless and self-sacrificing love, strength, composure, humility and generosity, Mothers heart is deep abyss at the bottom of which you will always find forgiveness.

Late Eminent Urdu poet Munawwar Rana will always recite couplets dedicated to the Maa(Mother), In these (Shers) poems he will describing mother in every line which used to bring tears to the eyes of the audience with him,

Kisi ko Ghar mila Hisse mein, ya kisi ko dukan mili hisse main, Main Ghar mein sabse Chota to Mere Hisse Mein Maa Aayi (In family someone got Home in share, others got shop ,but as i was the youngest in the family i got Mother in my share)

While paying my tribute to mothers, allow me to share a loose English translation of an Urdu poem:

Maut Ke Aagosh Mein Jab So Jaati Hain Maa, Tab Jake Kahi Thoda Sa Sukun Paati Hai Maa, Bachchon Aur Pure Pariwar Ke Fikar Mein Kuch Aissi Ghul Jaati Hai Maa, Ki Naujawan Hote Hue Bhi Budhi Nazar Aati Hai Maa.

It is our divine obligation, that we provide our mothers with great love, affection and personal care in their last days of life when they are very old and bed ridden and earn their blessings.

But, unfortunately, today, in a globalised world, we have converted Mother’s Day into a social event rather than a day to cherish the memories attached to them and give them the needed attention.

My letter is to pay a humble tribute to all mothers, as India celebrated Mother’s Day on May 8 this year (“Mother’s Day special: Sridevi, Tabu and other Bollywood leading ladies who honed their maternal instincts on screen”, Gulf News, May 08).

Mothers are God’s best gift to humanity. Without them, nothing makes sense. A mothers is her child’s first teacher from whom he or she learns morals and manners. Mothers represent love and forgiveness in their true form; they are selfless and full of generosity.

From the time a child is born, the mother nurtures him or her until her last breath. They play a meaningful role in the child’s upbringing. The world seems to have converted mother’s day into a social event. But, how many mothers get back the true respect which they deserve? I genuinely believe their contribution is often overlooked, so it is at least an opportunity to thank them.
