Bollywood actor Dilip Kumar is widely considered one of the greatest actors in the history of Indian cinema ("Dilip Kumar remembered: Bollywood thespian leaves behind a rich legacy", Gulf News, July 07). He holds the record for winning the maximum number of awards by an actor to contribute to Indian cinema. His charm transcended all boundaries, leaving behind many grieving fans across the subcontinent.

He bagged more awards than any other Bollywood star, including eight Filmfare awards, India's version of the Oscars. An era has indeed ended in Bollywood with no one to fill the void left by the thespian, Kumar will live forever in our hearts.

He has left behind his extraordinary legacy of masterpieces of beautiful films, which will keep enthralling us for generations to come. His charisma captivated the audience across the ages. May his soul rest in peace.

(2) Dilip Kumar Actor Extraordinary.

Sir,It has been an extraordinary time for Indian Cinema with the passing away of several of its Iconic personalities Irfan Khan, Rishi kapoor, Music Director Sajid Khan, Lyricist Yogesh, Legendary director Basu Chatterjee and now Thespian Dilip Kumar most accomplished actor of Indian cinema has departed.

People across the subcontinent paid tributes to the Dilip Kumar who dominated the "golden age" of the Indian cinema,he was known for his classics such as Devdas and Mughal- E-Azam who,who was hailed as the “Tragedy King” and one of Hindi cinema’s greatest actors.

When Dilip Kumar passed away, three generations of Indians and Pakistanis united to mourn his death and to pay homage to an immortal actor and a legend of Bollywood.

Dilip Kumar (Born yousuf Khan) was Indian cinema's first and most influential Khan- an extraordinary force that inspired generations of actors .

Dilip Kumar was one of the three prominent actors of Bollywood, alongside Raj Kapoor and Dev Anand, who had dominated the Indian Cinema during the golden era from the 1940's to 1960's, they greatly helped to craft the cinematic image of post-Independent India, In true sense, it will be rightly to call Dilip Kumar as the father of Modern Bollywood, as he was one of those rare artists who have lot to do in determining what Bollywood stands today.

He was truly a versatile actor, w hat made him a class apart from other Bollywood heros of that era, the variety of roles he played with ease from tragedy to light comedy, he was a "Method" actor (a style he pioneered), he had started exhibiting the versatility from the very beginning of his film career when he starred in Bollywood in mid-1940, his contemporaries stars of Bollywood of that Era Raj Kapoor and Devanand, lacked this art of versatility of acting what Diip kumar hd shown.

Dilip Kumar's Persona.

Dilip Kumar had summarised himself into the history of emerging India, he was more than an actor, he was an institution that inspired generations of actors, In his glorious career spanning over half a century, he had acted just in 62 films but enthralled the audience across the generations, he had enjoyed a following across the Indian subcontinent and among the global diaspora.

Dilip Kumar was a multifaceted person with towering intellect and an unparalleled brilliance in the mastery of acting with the linguistic sophistry, he was exceptionally good at the art of dialogue delivery, he was a handsome, extremely suave, a gentleman with a great heart, who was also writer, occasional singer and an avid philanthropist, known as the champion of communal harmony and a responsible citizen who will respect all religions.

Dilip Kumar's secular beliefs will spring straight from his heart and his respect for all religions, castes, communities and creeds, he was as well-versed with the Holy Quran as with the Bhagavad Gita and could recite verses from his memory.

Supporting social causes were very dear to his heart, In his professional and personal life, he always maintained a certain professional grace and dignity which lasted till the end.

Dilip Kumar unlike many other Bollywood actors, didn't select movies for any commercial interest,he was one of those few actors-stars for whom a good role meant more than anything else in the world, Money part comes later, hence he selected films for good roles very carefully where he will be able to give a social message through his films, which only increased his stature in the fiercely competitive film industry.

Dilip Kumar was a multi-linguistic person, who could speak over half a dozen languages with ease including English, Hindi, Urdu, Punjabi, Pashto, Marathi, Gujarati, but most he was commended for his pristine Urdu and immaculate dialogue delivery which earned him praise.

Dilip Kumar being a multi-linguistic person, who could comfortably transcend the barriers of language and dialects, in Mughal-e-Azam(1960) he performed the role of Prince Salim who speaks chaste Urdu and in Ganga-Jamuna(1961), he played the role of Dacoit Ganga, where he has to communicate in Awadhi dialect.

His impeccable Urdu and Hindi dictums made him a revered figure in Hindi film industry, not because he had won multiple awards, because he was perfectionist in every role he played, audience will be spellbound by his acting, his epic film Mughal-E Azam was seen by several of his fans multiple times, sometimes they saw back to back in the theatre.

In the long glorious history of Hindi cinema, "Mughal-e-Azam" has one of the best ever romantic scenes with the stunning performance of Dilip Kumar as Prince Salim and Madhubala as Anarkali.

He was a great music enthusiast, who had also a flair for the singing apart being a brilliant actor of Indian cinema, He also loved to play cricket, He was a film star who acted in across genres.

Dilip Kumar was a courageous person, whenever necessary, he will not hesitate to tell others what he thought, he will alway speak his mind despite his good relations with several of leaders in politics, business and in film industry.

Dilip Kumar "The Bollywood Legend".

In his glorious career spanning over half a century, Dilip Kumar had acted just in 62 films, but he had enthralled the audience across the generations, he had summarised himself into the history of emerging India.

Dilip Kumar was arguably the most versatile actor of the Bollywood ever had it, what made him a class apart from other top Bollywood hero's of that era was,the variety of roles he played with ease from tragedy to light comedy, in fact he had started exhibiting the versatility from the very beginning of his film career when he started in Bollywood in the mid-1940, his contemporaries stars of that era in Bollywood, Raj Kapoor and Dev Anand, lacked this art of versatility of acting. His versatility can be judged from the fact that, when he was shooting for Mughal-e-Azam (1960) and Ganga Jamuna (1961) during the same period, both the characters were absolutely different, he being a class apart as an actor, he played both the roles remarkably well, In Mughal E Azam he plays the role of Prince Salim who speaks in chaste Urdu and in Ganga jamuna he plays the role of Dacoit Ganga who speaks in Awadhi.

He essayed a gamut of roles, from happiness to sorrow to light comedy, like of a pure hearted villager, Princes, a suave urbanite, a Bengali gentleman, an upright police officer, dacoits, Suve urban young in Andaz, footpath, Alcoholic, jilted lover Playboy and a swashbuckling hero, he also played memorable patriotic roles in films like Kranti (1981) and Karma (1986), all these roles he played with great distinction and to the full satisfaction of Audience.

During the golden era of Hindi cinema, he charmed millions of fans with his stellar roles in blockbusters such Mela (1948), Andaz (1949), Devdas (1955), Naya-daur(1957), Mughal-E- Azam(1960), Ganga jamuna(1961), Ram Aur Shyam (1967), Shakti (1982) and many others.

Dilip Kumar is widely regarded by his fans and peers as one of the greatest actors in the contemporary history of the Bollywood, during his distinguished career spanned over five decades, he starred in some of the greatest films ever made in Bollywood including Devdas(1955), epic film "Mughal-e-Azam (1960)" which charmed the millions of hearts with his memorable performance, In noted director Bimal Roy's "Devdas" (1955) his acting was a class apart, where he took his acting to another level with the role of an alcoholic and a life of a despair.in fact none of these film were imagenable without Dilip Kumar's presence in the film as hero. In his 62 films, he had shown his acting talent, not only of the finest tragic actor of his days but who also equally succeeded at comedy." Thus Dilip Kumar with his classic acting in these films, has shown his prowess as an actor- par- excellence, i

He was arguably the best actor Indian cinema has ever produced, a one-man acting institution who with his classic acting will leave his audience spellbound, most praiseworthy aspect of Dilip Kumar was his ability to sustain the audience and maintain a loyal legion of fans across the generations and across India, Pakistan and beyond.

In Bollywood there are some actors, who have worked in hundred of movies, and their films have generated huge revenues, still they go into oblivion, but there are no better actors than Dilip Saheb, who acted in just 62 films in his entire career spanning over 54 years (1944-1996), still even decades after retirement from films, his aura has not diminished unlike that of some other yesteryears actors, he was the finest tragic actor of his days who also succeeded at light comedy."

Some of his films--Mela, Naya Daur, Ganga Jamuna, Devdas(1955) and Mughal-e-Azam-were his super hit films, which are regarded as the one of the greatest movies ever made in Indian cinema, another memorable role he played in the epic movie Mughal-e-Azam based on life of Mughal Prince salim, which was one of the biggest box office hit film in Bollywood.

Dilip Saheb will be best remembered as the first cinematic legend of the Indian cinema who represented the golden era of Indian films, the period when actors will concentrate more on their craft rather on making the money while their going was good,

He was an institution himself who had inspired so many future actors like Amitabh Bachchan, Naseeruddin Shah, Shah Rukh Khan, Kamal Hassan and Nawzuddin Siddiqui and several others who went on to make big names in Bollywood, one can notice Dilip Kumar's legacy in other famous actors like Rajendra Kumar, Manoj Kumar, Rajesh Khanna and Amitabh Bachan who were all inspired by his style of acting.

Dilip Kumar(Born Yousuf Khan) undoubtedly was the Indian cinema's first and most influential Khan -an extraordinary artist who inspired generations of Artists.

In the Indian sub-continent. The thespian's arguably remains one of the greatest popular Film Star of the Indian Cinema whose charm transcended all boundaries, he leaves behind a large number of grieving fans across the subcontinent and beyond in GCC countries. Dilip Kumar had close proximity to then Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru, but it didn't stop him from having friends cross ideologies, Atal Bihari Vajpayee though he belonged to the Jan sangh, still they were good friends

Dilip Kumar was known for his straightforwardness and courage, he knew his weight of words, an was unafraid of speaking up his mind, whenever it was necessary, he didn't hesitate to tell others what he thought of his politics, he will always speak his mind despite his good relation with leaders like Vajpayee, Sharad Pawar and Bal Thackeray,

Even Atal Bihari Vajpayee was his admirer and who respected him a lot in spite of across ideologies, he even tried to use Dilip Kumar's goodwill on the diplomatic front.

Shiv Sena Supremo Bal Thackeray was also his good friend though many a times they will disagreed with each other, but their personal equation remained good,

Dilip Kumar was always seen with great esteem across the country so much so that all Political leaders across the party spectrums had placed a great trust in him d recetd him as a super of India .

Thus his role in these heart-wrenching but award winning films earned him the title of "Tragedy King".

The Thespian, had earned huge accolades for his portrayals of tragic heroes doing classic romantic roles in films like Devdas and Mughal E Azam, he was also equally ease at doing the light-hearted comedy roles, he was an actor's actor who will leave his audience spellbound.

One of the most memorable roles, he played in the film "Devdas"(1955), that epitomized him as the "Tragedy King" persona of him for excelling in brooding an intense romantic roles, this super hit and Filmfare award winning film of 50's "Devdas"(1955) was directed by legendary film director Bimal Roy.

Advocate of friendship between India and Pakistan.

By late 1990, He started focussing more on humanitarian issues and for the betterment of relations between India and Pakistan, he firmly believed that mutual hostility could benefit neither country, he was a messenger of Peace, a staunch advocate of friendship between these two countries, who are part of the same civilization from centuries, he believed both the countries were integral to his identity, Peshawar in Pakistan was his Janam bhoomi(Birth Place) and Mumbai in India was his Karam bhoomi (where he worked, lived till his last breath),

Dilip Kumar's family moved to India in 1935, but what he saw during the partition, perhaps this was a reason he relentlessly advocated for peace and friendship between two nations who speak the same language, food and culture.

People of both countries share the common heritage and history, both the side have lot in common, language, food and other things, whenever any indian and Pakistani will meet outside their country, they will be friends and try to talk in their native language, whether he is Punjabi,Sindhi or Urdu speaking,

A nother notable work of Dilip saheb was, he used his goodwill in Pakistan to intervene during the Kargil war of 1999.

He also was nominated for the upper house of Parliament(Rajya Sabha), Maharashtra government had appointed him as the 'Sheriff of Mumbai" (1980),

Dilip Kumar was given a State funeral.

Shiv Sena Supremo Bal Thackeray's personal equation with Dilip Kumar was always very good, though they will disagree sometimes on some issues, in 1999, when Pakistan's announced Highest civilian award "Nishan-e-Imtiaz" (1998) for legendary actor Dilip Kumar,

During the kargil war (1999), his good friend and Shiv sena supremo Bal Thackeray told Dilip kumar to return the "Nishan -e-Imtiaz", there were even protests outside his house, when Dilip Kumar consulted then Prime Minister Atal Bihari vajpayee he told him to accept this award as this award is given to Dilip Kumar legendary Actor.

AMITABH BACHCHAN AN EVERLASTING ICON:

To an extent, a lot of Amitabh Bachchan’s success can be attributed to the manner in which he has adjusted to the changing times, something his contemporary famous actors of that era like Rajesh Khanna, failed to do so and paid the price for, Rajesh Khanna who was dubbed as the "First Superstar of Indian cinema, with the release of his film Aradhana(1969), even Vinod Khanna lost the race due to his stint at Osho ashram at a time when he was doing very well and could have given Amitabh a run for his money

Amitabh also had his bad professional phase, but he is back at the pinnacle of success - as an actor, a brand ambassador in everything from cement to mobile phone to Bhujia snacks.

Amitabh has had a 22-year long association with Kaun Banega Crorepati (KBC), which he has been hosting since 2000, KBC has definitely elevated him from superstardom to ubiquity, which has made him a household name across generations and geographies, this latest KBC show which started on 7th aug 2022 will be his 14th show as as a host.

But since the year 2000 when Mohabbatein was released and iconic Hindi TV show kaun banega Crorepati(KBC) was launched, the significance of Amitabh has only increased with the passage of time.

I end this by saluting a man who has kept us entertained through many memorable film with his versatile roles and baritone voice, even after several decades we will still like to see Amitabh Bachchan, The Shahanshah of Bollywood,

In the year 2022,on 11th October, Amitabh Bachchan will be celebrating his 80h year birthday, still he continues to be India's most famous and recognised star, at this age when most stars retire or fade away, but he continues to show his presence through his films, Iconic TV shows and advertisements, he deserves all respects for the work he has done and continue to do so as an actor, TV host, commercial advertising and as a brand ambassador.

He is a man who has learnt to power through defeat, and continues to show grace under duress, to an extent, lot of Amitabh Bachchan's success can be attributed to the manner in which he adjusted to the changing times, something his contemporary famous actors of that era stars like Rajesh Khanna failed to do and paid the price for and went into oblivion.

Even though Amitabh Bachchan is one of the biggest film stars of the Indian cinema, a man of evident decent instincts, who in spite of reaching to the zenith of success through defeat, and continues to show grace under duress, yet he has not forgotten to be a fine human being even after reaching super-stardom and and continues to maintains a dignified humility, he is still so humble and politeness is his forte, which he has amply displayed in KBC TV show.

Amitabh Bachchan fans love him so much that even some of his movies lasting over three hours, have audiences begging for more: one could never have enough of him.

Amitabh Bachchan's legacy that can never be replaced, his legacy is his iconic films, which even now his fans will like to see his film five decades after their release, his deep, rich voice baritone voice which has produced some of the most powerful, popular and unforgettable dialogues in the Hindi film industry.

May actors become successful, many become memorable with their unforgettable performance, and few becomes legends, but there could be only one Mega Star of Millennium Amitabh Bachchan".

I wish Amitabh Bachchan the only Mega Star of the Millennium a very healthy, happy and long filming life, it is really nice to see a man in 80 still active in demanding profession like acting, there never was and never will be another Actor like Amitabh Bachchan in the Indian cinema in the long time to come--he is truly the Shehanhah of Indian cinema and will remain so.

He is truly a Superstar of Millennium

Amitabh Bachchan deserves top honours!
Gulf News, 7th Oct, 2019, L.E

It is heartening to learn that Bollywood's most iconic actor, Amitabh Bachchan has been unanimously selected with this year's Dadasaheb Phalke award ("Amitabh Bachchan humbled by Dadasaheb Phalke honour", Gulf News, September 25). He is being recognised for his outstanding contribution to films. In my opinion, for Bachchan, this award comes late in his career.

The Dadasaheb Phalke award is India's highest and most prestigious cinema award for artists, which is given in the name of Dadasaheb Phalke, for his lifetime contribution to Indian cinema. It was instituted in 1969.

Bachchan rose to stardom in Hindi cinema with his 'angry young man' persona. His stellar roles captured the audience's heart in his hit films like Zanzeer, Deewar and Sholay. Despite being a huge star, he appears on television as the host of the popular television show, Kaun Banega Crorepati, India's version of Who Wants to be a Millionaire.

He is still the same charismatic performer that he was five decades ago and is equally popular in Pakistan and the UAE.

In a career spanning five decades, Bachchan has given memorable performances and has been awarded the National Film Award, Padma Shri (1984), Padma Bhushan (2001) and Padma Vibhushan (2015). Bachchan’s Dadasaheb Phalke award is much deserved.
