For the last two days, silicon valley has been witnessing an unprecedented cycle of violent incidents involving garment factory workers mostly women(Bengaluru burns ,centre buckles DC,April 20)

This is reflection of the frustration and discontent among these workers,The cops should remember that these unprecedented protests can"t erupt unless there are some forces working behind them,Everyone knows that women can't go to such an extent and engage in violence.

The police should investigate the matter thoroughly and ensure that peace prevails in I.T hub.

Rajasthan Turmoil
Deccan Herald-Friday, June 1, 2007--LE

This is first time in India that communities have taken to violence of such magnitude for the benefits of reservation.

Since 60 years of independence Rajasthan has been an ocean of peace. There has never been a single major instance of such violence with loss of public property. During the turmoil of 80s when terrorism was at his peak in Punjab and there were problems in Haryana , Kashmir , Assam and Tamil Nadu, even senior politicians, army police Officers had shifted their families to Rajasthan due to safety. Today, we should very seriously think about this needless violence which has led to the death of 19 people and scores of people being injured and complete blockade of rail and road exit routes from Delhi to southwest.

Gujjars, a community of farmers and cattle grazers, has been demanding from long time to be reclassified into ST from OBC for securing better quota benefits as they feel they have to compete with powerful Jats who constitute about 12-13 % of the population and are well educated , prosperous and take away major chunk of 27% OBC quota benefits in jobs and education. Gujjars (7-8 %) feel insecure and fear being denied their share of benefits due to less privilege of education. Meenas who constitute about 10 % are against Gujjars being given ST status as it will take away their quota privilege. Today they hold major Police and administrative and police posts.

This violence in Rajasthan is serious warning to political parties. This is first time in India that communities have taken to violence of such magnitude for the benefits of reservation. Hence government should spend more money for education instead of quotas.

THE PIONEER-WEDNESDAY, 05 OCTOBER 2016 | RAMESH G JETHWANI | BANGALORE

Sir — The Marathas have been a dominating community in Maharashtra, with a big say in electoral politics. As the Maratha agitation in Maharashtra spreads, the best course of action for the State Government will be to work towards economic upliftment of this community. It must address the agrarian distress, which has caused significant impact on their earning. Better irrigation facilities must be provided.

More jobs must be created. If the scope of reservation is expanded, ultimately it may be struck down during judicial scrutiny. Quotas are not the answer to address the problem.

Dear Sir,
Jats are the single largest community in the north Indian state of Haryana, numbering around 8mn. They are traditionally a farming community. Highly patriotic, the Jat community’s contribution to India in various walks of life is immense. India’s present army chief, Gen dalbir singh Suhag, is a Jat.

But I feel the community’s latest agitation for reservation in government jobs was uncalled for.

Protests are a vital part of any democracy, but this right has often been misused in India. While communities have every right to protest peacefully for causes they believe in, it is important that they should not turn violent. I hope better sense will prevail on community leaders.

Khaleej Times--LE -5 June 2011-L.E.

This is with reference to the news story, ‘Indian anti-graft guru begins fast unto death’ (KT, June 4).

It is more than 100 years ago in South Africa that Mahatma Gandhi first unraveled a non-violent movement as a method of public protest, but today by judging to the widespread response Anna Hazare’s fast unto death for Jan Lokpal got across India and now Baba Ramdev’s fast against corruption and black money spirited away is equally getting great response across India. It clearly proves the power of peaceful protest endures even today.

The demands of Anna Hazare and Baba Ramdev are worth perusing in national interest as they are for good cause and will benefit the nation as corruption has reached its zenith.

It clearly shows that civil activism has become the last resort for the people of India as their elected representatives have failed to take up grievances, also if we see the representatives of civil society are persons of high integrity, are low profile and well meaning people who want to take up issues most confronting the nation.

This refers to the editorial, “End violent Jat protests” (February 22). Protest is vital for a democracy, but in India, this right is often misused. While communities have every right to make demands, they must remain peaceful.

The violent protest has affected normal life in north India. Jat protesters not only blocked the railway tracks, but also the highways. Public and private properties were damaged. It’s high time that such protests are contained before they spread to other States.

Sir, Protests are vital part of any democracy, but in India this right is often misused. While communities have every right to make demand in peaceful ways on the government, they have no business going on a violent agitation. The deplorable Jat stir is a case in point that has brought life in northern states of India to a standstill. Reports suggest that traditional leaders of the movement have lost control over the agitation.

It is high time all political parties intervene in the nation's interest and bring the protest under control before it spreads to other states and causes more havoc.

Jats are the single largest community in Haryana, numbering around eight millions,The are traditionally a farming community, highly patriotic, whose contribution to the nation in various walks of is immense, especially in the armed forces.

It is therefore unfortunate that protests by Jats for reservation has taken a violent turn, leading to several people being killed ,hundreds injured, incidents of arson, trains being stalled, highway being blocked and public property being destroyed,

It is high time government take measures to contain the riots before it snowballs into major law and order problem.

Deccan Chronicle 21 July 2012-L.E.

The violence at Maruti’s plant at manesar gives a clear hint that all is not well on the industrial front in Haryana. Massive investment has been made in Gurgaon, which is also described as a Maruti belt. The region has been hit by industrial unrest, thanks to militant labour unions. The Haryana govt and industrial units should work together to develop an effective grievance redress system to settle labour disputes at the earliest.

With global recession looming large, violent protests will send wrong signals to investors which can be suicidal.
