This is with reference to the report powerless city needs quick fix (May 13). Unscheduled power cuts every alternative hour have made life unbearable in the scorching summer. The state government should take steps to improve power supply till new power plants starts generation and the existing thermal power stations regain their generating, capacity with a comprehensive overhaul. A concerted effort should he made to save power in the domestic and industrial sectors and also cut transmission losses.

With the Global Investors Meet scheduled to be held next month, we should focus on revamping the power sector so that investors do not shy away from Karnataka because of power shortage

TERRIBLE TUESDAY
Deccan Chronicle 2 August 2012.L.E.

Even before the Northern grid could fully recover from Monday’s blackout, Tuesday again brought darkness to half of India’s population in 20 states. This is surely a lack of grid discipline. Power is transmitted using highly advanced technology operating on 50Hz frequency which allows only a small fluctuation.

When it is more than this , the grid cannot handle the fluctuation leading to a collapse. Hence state electricity boards should exercise maximum restraint and desist from overdrawing power.
