Mental instability was behind Pune incident
DNA- 27 January 2012-L.E.

This is in reference to your article 'Home ministry gets jittery over UIDAI mandate', which appeared in the January 25 edition. The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) had been set up with a view to issue unique identity numbers to every citizen of India. The motive of the exercise was enabling effective delivery of government services to the beneficiaries and preventing duplication of cross-subsidies. However, as the country's vigilant media our pointed out, there are a few !feedback: loopholes in the project ridia.net concerning national security.

It has been claimed that the process of issuing UIDAI is flawed, particularly the verification procedure. The Aadhaar card should be issued only after a comprehensive verification by police or any other competent authority. As the country's border is porous on the eastern side, there are chances that anti-national elements can sneak into the country and avail Aadhaar card.

They can then misuse their 'citizenship' to carry on anti-India activities. The government should take a serious note of the allegations and take corrective measures.

It was horrific to read the news story about the bus driver killing nine people in Pune, published in KT on Jan 26. The enraged bus driver belonging to MSRTS went berserk crushing several cars while driving his vehicle over pedestrians in a crowded market at high speed, killing at least 9 and injuring 27.

This heart rendering tragedy was without any parallel the worst ever incident in recent times in India. This incident should be a wake up call and it demands that the authorities implement measures to ensure that such incidents are not repeated. We need to take such incidents very seriously. All these big public utilities like State Road Transport corporations need to ascertain mental conditions of their staff, especially drivers. Regular medical check ups to diagnose any medical problem are needed. Those affected need to be given medical treatment from a qualified psychiatrist. Such situations can arise due to overwork, family problems or professional hazards.

A mental issue may occur because of chemical imbalance which if not treated would trigger off mental imbalance. Many a times, misperception triggers off a psychopathic reaction in an already mentally disturbed person. As reported this driver had a confirmed psychiatric problem.

The Indian city of Pune witnessed the worst road tragedy in its history last week when the driver of a Maharashtra State Corporation bus came from wrong side of the busy Pune-Solapur Road and went past smashing all types of vehicles on the way killing at least 9 persons and injuring 27 pedestrians, and ramming at least 40 vehicles.

The 30-year-old driver was reportedly in a violent mood and went berserk crushing several cars while driving his vehicle aimlessly in a crowded market at high speed over pedestrians. The gruesome photos of this "Deadliest Road Rage" should be a wake-up call to traffic authorities everywhere. All big public utilities need to check the mental condition of their staff, especially drivers with "regular medical tests" to ascertain any medical problem.

Such situations can arise due to overworking, family problems or professional hazards. Also any kind of misconception can trigger off a psychopathic reaction in an already mentally disturbed person. To put them behind wheels is to give them a license to kill.

Every nook and corner of the country has stray dogs running around freely.stray dog bites are highly dangerous many a times when dog bite a child ,if it is ignored and timely medical treatment is not given , and if it catches rabies. which is fatal and life threatening.

Control of rabies in stray dogs is most important and can be effective only by giving antirabies vaccines. hence mass vaccination in Dogs is the only effective solution which will work as barrier for healthy immune dogs to prevent disease from further spreading.

The government should make a comprehensive of the analyse of growing stray dog menace problem and find suitable ways and means to curb the alarming increase in the stray dog population which has reached to alarming level and take remedial measures.Hence urgently remedial measures are required at government level
